Hickleton Sports Ground - A Place to Play
- Bringing together local sports groups and schools on a site well known for its sporting history.
- Developing a clean, safe and supportive environment for local people to participate in sport.
- Working with coaches to improve the skills of young and old alike.

- Plans include: new building for changing and recreational facilities,new football, hockey and rugby pitches, a tennis court, an astro-turf hockey and five aside football pitch, cricket nets and summer athletics activity.

Cleaning up Thurnscoe - Lets be Proud of the area we live in!
- By working with local people this project is aimed at respecting our community in Thurnscoe.
- Cleaning up a well used area of Thurnscoe by making an attractive environment for local people to shop and socialise, providing benches, planted areas and litter bins.
Community Transport
- The provision of community transport is benefical in order to take people to work, support the Multi-skills workshop and the ILM scheme, Community Garage,sports projects, Summer Youth Projects and Sure Start Thurnscoe.

Community Gardens & Allotments
- Re-developing local allotments so that they are ready for planting.
- Attracting local people back to the art of gardening.
- Providing facilities and services on the sites which will be secure and prevent vandalism.
- Increase awareness of health issues and knowledge about the preparation of healthy food.
Working with other local initiatives like Sure Start we hope to develop the skills of young
parents and assist them with the preparation of organic food for babies and toddlers,
including general health and basic cookery skills.

Community Garage - Are you good with cars...
- Offering training to people with the potential skills to do the job but who may not have the
necessary qualifications or confidence to take the normal route through college.

- Community self service garage which allows local people to access through short courses the skills they need to service their own cars.

Station House Family Centre&The Hub
- Providing summer holiday activities for children that are both fun and educational.
- Working towards the provision of after school care and under five's creche facility.
- Working with young people and providing them with support and guidance.
- Helping adults to access learning opportunities and providing childcare while they do it.
- Offering a sporty alternative to Hickleton Sports Ground where people can play sport, relax
- and enjoy their free time without belonging to a sporting group.

Skate-Board, BMX and Roller-Blade Park...!
Young people want to daring, they want to have fun, so by developing a facility which
will give them the opportunity to do it in safety, allowing parents to rest easy...knowing that the park has been built according to governing body regulations,taking notice to public safety.
A safe and secure place for Skate-Board, BMX and Roller-Blades away from the dangers of
the streets.
Central Support
Thurnscoe Consortium
- The Thurnscoe Consortium was set up to help and develop local centres, to provide support
- to the volunteers and make sure that they change and develop positively for the future.
- Finding money to change things is not easy, giving people the things they want is not easy,but by working
- with a Project Development Worker the centers have the support they need to make the changes.
- By working together, information and advice can be shared and support can be given where needed.
- Working with a Project Development Worker the volunteers know they have a professional resource to relay on.
H1 Strategy | LOCAL ACTION PLAN
1 Community safety Facilitator
This initiative is aimed at bringing people together to look at issues such asthe fear of the crime and develop community based solutions to the issues raised.
2 Electronic Community Village
Local project offering IT training and support to enable the local community access to the internet and basic computer skills.
3 Expension of Managed Workspace
This project would facilitate the development of medium sized business units which would allow those expending businesses to stay within the area instead of moving elsewhere inside the borough or even outside.
4 Family Support Project
The aim of this project is to promote and increase family services identified by members of the community. The aim is to highlight a range of different provisions that need support and to encourage and improve social, health and educational opportunities for families residing in the Barnsley Dearne area.
5 Houghton Road Centre
Is a community centre based in middle of Thurnscoe. It has already accessed funds from Community Fund and Coalfield Regeneration Trust to develop its capacity and refurbish the building. These are still aspects of the overall plan which need funding and as such they are continuing to work with the Thurnscoe Consortium in order to find funding. They already provide a base for training and education courses as well as social and recreational groups.There is also a mother and toddler group that meets there.
